Religion

The Christ Our Life third-grade program proclaims the Good News of Jesus Christ to the children and strengthens their belief in him and his message. We will be studying many stories of the Old Testament.


Spelling

Each lesson presents a word list that demonstrates one spelling pattern or generalization. The lesson consists of three types of activities; practice the words, build word power, and reach out for new words.


Vocabulary

Fundamental vocabulary skills and strategies will be presented in each lesson. The words are commonly used in print and on proficiency tests.


Reading

Literacy Place provides a variety of texts which follow a clear, consistent pattern of instruction and provides support for all readers. The curriculum provides strategies for targeting students who need skills intervention, language-development support, and enrichment.


Math

Houghton Mifflin Math is organized into 8 units. Each unit consists of 2-4 chapters related to the big mathematical idea of the unit. The units are; place value and money, addition and subtraction, data and probability, multiplication and division, measurement, geometry and measurement, fractions and decimals, and multiplication and division by 1-digit numbers.


English

In Exercises in English the main focus will be the recognition of all parts of speech. Writing skills will also be reviewed and practiced.


Social Studies

Scott Foresman Communities provides reading and writing instruction that builds understanding of many communities in the United States. Map skills, cause and effect, geography and economics are incorporated into many of the lessons.


Science

Macmillan/McGraw-Hill Science focuses on the process of inquiry in each lesson. The students study concepts from three areas of science; life, earth and physical science. Experiments are done with emphasis on the scientific method.


Handwriting

Zaner-Bloser Handwriting text reviews writing of letters, words, and sentences in cursive.
